You are a UCOG

What is a UCOG? A UCOG is a “Unique Child of God.” When used in the class I teacher, UCOG is the shortened version of, “I am a Unique Child of God, full of potential, washed in the blood of Christ.” Within this phrase we learn who we are; whose we are; and what our Savior has done for us: Washed us in the blood of Christ.

We learn that we are a child of God, one who belongs to the LORD. Bought and purchased by Him based on His work on the cross. Paying the punishment meant for us due to our sin. Instead of our death, Christ substituted Himself on our behalf. As such, when God views us, He doesn’t see our sinful selves, instead, He sees the work of Christ.

Because we have been created by God fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139), we each carry with us unique gifts, talents, and abilities. Some are called to be teachers, pastors, administrators, first responders, chefs, mothers, fathers, etc. When we speak of being “full of potential,” we are not speaking about being the “best version of yourself.” We know that we only become the “best version of ourselves” based on the work of Christ. He is our “best version.” Being “full of potential” means using our gifts, talents, and abilities to carry out our divine purpose of loving God, loving people, and sharing the Gospel.

1 Peter 2:9 echoes “I am a Unique Child of God, full of potential, washed in the blood of Christ,” well. It reads, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nationa people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…”

We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood. We belong to the LORD. You belong to the LORD. You are God’s possession, a UCOG. Why? For His glory and purpose as He has given you His mercy. And now, we use our gifts, talents, and abilities (“full of potential”) to “proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called” us out of the darkness.

1 Peter 2:9 points answers life’s pressing questions such as, “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?”

You are a Child of God, uniquely His, to proclaim the Gospel of Christ.
